Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank or sirloin steak
  • 8 pieces slider buns
  • 4 slices cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 2 tsp olive oil for cooking

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • spatula
  • Oven

Method

  1. Season the steak with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare doneness. Let it rest for five minutes before slicing thinly.
  2. In the same skillet, lower the heat and add sliced onions. Cook until soft and golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Toast slider buns lightly until golden brown.
  4. On each bun bottom, layer a slice of steak, caramelized onions, cheese, and drizzle with barbecue sauce.
  5. Melt cheese under the broiler for about one minute until gooey.
  6. Serve warm with your favorite sides.
