Ingredients
  

Cake Layers
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup whole milk room temperature
  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Buttercream Frosting
  • 2 cups unsalted butter softened
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Decoration
  • 1 batch fondant for covering the cake
  • 2 cups edible flowers for decoration
  • 1 cup gold leaf optional

Method
 

Prepare Cake Layers
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture, alternating with milk.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Make Buttercream Frosting
  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with heavy cream, and beat until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Stir in vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
Assemble and Decorate the Cake
  1. Place the first layer of cake on a cake stand and spread a layer of buttercream frosting on top.
  2. Repeat with remaining layers, frosting the top and sides of the cake.
  3. Cover the cake with fondant, smoothing it out for an elegant finish.
  4. Decorate with edible flowers and gold leaf as desired.
